在建筑学家和建筑师的眼中，最有代表性的北京建筑是深藏在胡同市井里的北京四合院。

In the eyes of architects, the most representative beijing architecture is the beijing quadrangle, which is hidden in the hutong.

看似平凡的建筑物，却是北京这座城市最深厚的血脉。而北京城本身就是无数四合院的组合。四合院就是四座房子围合起来。

围是一个庭院，称之为一进。围合出两个庭院，称之为两进。
